
There is little dispute that Software as a Service model rapidly becoming a dominant delivery model. By 2009, more than 50 percent of new implementations of sales force automation applications will be SaaS deployments, according to a new Gartner research note. Not surprisingly, the popularity of this deployment model in SFA is opening new opportunities in related categories. As SaaS continues to gain momentum, best of breed vendors will begin to deliver new products targeting its growth, Gartner predicts.

The company that coordinates the buying and selling of wholesale electricity for 80 percent of California is standardizing on new business intelligence tools as part of a major corporate technology upgrade. Over the past year, the California Independent System Operator has been replacing Excel spreadsheets and reporting tools from Business Objects and Microsoft with query, reporting and analysis tools from Actuate. The project is slated to be completed in November 2007.
